Service 02

Functional
safety.

Functional safety concerns the behaviour of safety-related parts of control systems. Sensors, logic and actuators must perform each safety function correctly and bring or maintain the machine in a safe state, including in the event of a fault.

The Waves service starts with the risk assessment, defines the required safety functions and performance levels (PLr or SIL), develops the control system architecture and verifies its behaviour. Design and validation follow EN ISO 13849-1, EN ISO 13849-2 or IEC 62061, depending on the technology and application.

A clear process.
Three connected steps.

The service enters the design process through coordinated activities, clear deliverables and defined responsibilities.

01
Define

We identify the safety functions and required Performance Level from the risk assessment.

02
Design

We develop the architecture, select components and coordinate hardware, logic and diagnostics.

03
Validate

We verify calculations, machine behaviour and compliance with the specification using repeatable evidence.
